Iconic Psychiatrist Carl Jung on Human Personality in Rare BBC Interview | Brain Pickings

Legendary Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (July 26, 1875–June 6, 1961), along with his frenemy Freud, is considered the founding father of modern analytical psychology. He coined the concepts of collective consciousness and introverted vs. extroverted personality, providing the foundation for the popular Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Though famously accused of having lost his soul, Jung had a much more heartening view of human nature than Freud and memorably wrote that “the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.” On October 22 of 1959, BBC’s Face to Face — an unusual series of pointed, almost interrogative interviews seeking to “unmask public figures” — aired a segment on Jung, included in the 1977 anthology C.G. Jung Speaking: Interviews and Encounters (public library). Eighty-four at the time and still working, he talks to New Statesman editor John Freeman about education, religion, consciousness, human nature, and his temperamental differences with Freud, which sparked his study of personality types. A Vintage-Inspired Wedding Weekend in Plainfield, New Hampshire : Brides

While ring shopping together will help a bride give her groom-to-be an idea of what she likes, it also makes it harder to plan a surprise proposal, something Justin Bell learned when trying to propose to his now-wife Bethany. “It was no surprise that we’d get engaged soon,” says Bethany. “The question was how he’d do it!” In order to catch her off-guard, Justin enlisted the help of her bosses to schedule a “business meeting” on a Friday afternoon—the same day he and Bethany had a dinner date where she was convinced he would propose. “Justin figured that if I was focused on preparing for a business meeting that I wouldn’t suspect anything. He was right,” Bethany says. On October 5, 2012, Justin’s plan went seamlessly. As Bethany walked into Boston’s Petit Robert Bistro for her meeting, Justin appeared with a platter of roses — and a ring box. For their August 24, 2013 wedding, Bethany and Justin, both 33, selected Home Hill Inn in Plainfield, New Hampshire, for the weekend’s wedding events, and worked with Krystal Beauregard, the Inn’s wedding planner, to pull together all the details. They booked all 12 rooms and spent the entire weekend celebrating with family and friends. Lace curtains, dusty miller, and vintage accents added to the Inn’s already antique feel. via A Vintage-Inspired Wedding Weekend in Plainfield, New Hampshire : Brides.    ...

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo’s Wedding Reception Details : Brides

Though Adam Levine was cryptic about his involvement in planning his wedding to Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo last weekend, it sounds like the affair had his stamp all over it — a little rock ‘n roll, a little casual, and a lot of fun. Celebrity wedding planners Yifat Oren and Stefanie Cove designed and coordinated the destination nuptials, which were at Flora Farms in Los Cabos, Mexico, last Saturday. Oren and Cove organized large circular tables around mango trees for the reception (which followed a 20-minute ceremony officiated by Jonah Hill), and strung tiny white lights and long garlands of flowers from Arete Florals, according to People. Guests took in multiple sets from world-class musical entertainment, including Maroon 5 (Levine’s band), Stevie Nicks, Sublime, and Prinsloo herself! The Namibian-born model dedicated the Bright Eyes song “First Day of My Life” to her groom; she reportedly told Levine early in their relationship that she wanted to sing the tune to her future husband. In between music sets, there were several speeches that “had guests laughing,” a source says. “Everyone was having so much fun...
